ABOUT
US So the question is how do
we build the future of the muslim in this city and how we can be sure that
our children do better in all fields, keeping their muslim identity. With this in mind, we have
formed the MCSO (Muslim Multicultural Community Services) to provide the
immigrants and their children career guidance, training and organize tutoring
services for the youth so that they can excel in high school studies and are
able to study in the university in the desired field of science and
technology. This will allow them to compete in equal footing with other
communities. We hope the Ottawa muslim
community will derive maximum benefit by sending their children to the
tutoring program as well as volunteering their time as tutors and help to
make the ten thousand muslim children best in school studies, in job skills
and provide the best Islamic environment.
Activities undertaken by
the MCSO over the past four years include:
The objectives of the MCSO
tutoring services are: 1) To offer individual
assistance to small groups of students in evening classes that help to
improve their academic performance in English, French, Mathematics. Science,
Chemistry, Biology and Physics. 2) To assist challenged
students whose mother tongue is not English to deal with school work where
knowledge of the language is especially important 3) To provide opportunities
for high school students to obtain credit for community activities and 4) To provide an environment
for the unemployed youths ( high school, university, new immigrants) to get
Canadian job experience, help the community by providing useful service and
also earn a small amount of money to meet pocket expenses 5) to provide assistance in
job hunting, career development including resume writing, interview process,
contacting potential employers and submitting applications 6) Giving references for
students for potential employers and universities 7) Giving an avenue to have
forum for multicultural social evenings 8) Gives an opportunity to
do networking and develop contacts with other students, parents, tutors and
social activities. |
